MetaRouter Now Supports Google AI Commerce Search
Google's commerce models learn from your shoppers. What they learn depends on which events reach them, and whether those events can be connected.

Retailers are moving from keyword search and rules-based merchandising to AI-powered commerce. Google AI Commerce Search is one example, using shopper behavior to improve search and recommendations.
MetaRouter now supports Google AI Commerce Search. Shopper events flow from your site to Google's Retail API through your server-side pipeline, mapped to Google's event vocabulary and carrying the identity needed to connect events into a single journey.
"Agentic Commerce mandates a shift from personalization to contextualization, fragmented context degrades the customer's digital experience. MetaRouter future-proofs enterprise identity for this transition: by anchoring visitor identity at the first mile and enriching it within the enterprise's private Google Cloud infrastructure, they provide the clean, reliable context layer agentic systems require to deliver real value."

Your event data is shaping the experience
Google AI Commerce Search uses real-time user events to improve search and recommendations. Searches, product views, add-to-cart events, and purchases give Google signals about what shoppers are doing and what happens after they search. Which makes data quality a different kind of problem than it used to be. If a purchase event is missing, delayed, or cannot be connected to the search that preceded it, Google has less context about what actually happened. This rarely surfaces as an error in a dashboard. It surfaces later, in the quality of the ranking and recommendations you get back.
Where the journey breaks
The connection between events depends on visitor identity. Google uses visitor IDs to associate behavior across events, and its documentation recommends keeping the same visitor ID across sessions and login state. In practice that's difficult to hold onto. The identifier usually starts life in browser storage, where it can be cleared by the shopper or expired by the browser, and it has to survive the shopper moving between anonymous and authenticated states. When it doesn't survive, Google sees the search and later sees the purchase, with nothing linking them.
MetaRouter handles that identity at the first mile. Visitor identity is assigned and persisted in first-party storage and attached to events as they move through the pipeline. When a shopper authenticates, the user ID can be added without losing the underlying visitor identity.
How it works
- Collect. First-party tags collect shopper events from your site and send them to your MetaRouter ingestion endpoint.
- Identify. Visitor identity is assigned and persisted in first-party storage, with user identity added when a shopper authenticates.
- Enrich and enforce. Events carry the context needed downstream, while consent rules are enforced before data leaves your environment.
- Map. Standard ecommerce events are mapped to Google's Retail event vocabulary, including search, detail page view, add to cart, and purchase complete. Product IDs are passed so events can be associated with your catalog.
- Deliver. Events are sent server-side to Google's Retail User Events API.
Because this runs on the same pipeline as your other destinations, the events sent to Google AI Commerce Search can come from the same collection layer as the events you send to Google Ads, your warehouse, and other downstream systems.
When bad data stops being a reporting problem
A data quality problem used to show up as a gap in a report. You found the broken tag, fixed it, and the problem stopped there.
When customer behavior is used to improve search and recommendations, incomplete data doesn't just leave a gap. It becomes part of what the system learns and carries forward into later decisions.
